Australian Citizenship Act 2007 to commence on 1 July 2007

The Australian Citizenship Act will commence on 1 July 2007.

This means that existing and eligible permanent residents have up to 3 years from 1 July 2007 to lodge applications for Australian citizenship under the old 1948 Act's residence requirements.
