Overview of General Skilled Migration for Medical Practitioners

Australian skilled visas - The first step: Skills Assessments
Applicants for an Australian skilled permanent visa generally will need to show evidence that a suitable skills assessment has been obtained. This means that independent applicants must have gone through a relevant skills assessment before applying for a skilled visa.

For medical practitioners, full medical registration is considered by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship as a positive skills assessment for Medical Occupations for the purposes of migration under the General Skilled Migration program.

This refers to either one of the following certificates issued by an Australian State or Territory Medical Board as evidence of full registration:
• Full or Unconditional or General medical registration.
• Conditional specialist registration which allows you to practise only in your particular speciality, with no further training or supervision requirements.

Initial Assessment Service
If you are currently working in Australia on a temporary work visa as a medical practitioner and you hold unconditional medical registration with a State or Territory Medical Board, please contact us via our Initial Assessment Form to review your permanent visa options.
