Who We Are

Ptlabs Consulting is a migration advice firm that provides professional services in a wide range of visa matters, including general skilled, employer-sponsored, partner and family migration to Australia, as well as merits review cases.

Peter Chiam is the director and founder of Ptlabs Consulting. He has been a registered migration agent since 2004.

Peter is a member of the Migration Institute of Australia. He was a member of the Australian Computer Society, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Peter holds a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours majoring in computer engineering which explains his unique ability to assist our clients with their technology skills assessments. His honours thesis was on computer vision and detection. Interestingly, Peter co-authored a technical paper for the Internet Society's 1996 conference which was presented in Montréal, Canada.

Peter contributed actively to various Australian immigration related internet forums and newsgroups using his online handle ptlabs. His keen personal interest in Australian immigration law led him to complete a Citizenship & Immigration Law course (with distinction) at the University of Technology, Sydney in 2003.

While he currently practises as a migration agent at Ptlabs Consulting, Peter was admitted and remains enrolled as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and is on the register of practitioners of the High Court of Australia. His legal qualifications include a Diploma in Law awarded by the Legal Profession Admission Board of New South Wales, where he graduated as the most distinguished law student, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University.

In his earlier professional life, Peter dealt with technologies like Perl, ActivePerl, Borland Delphi, Turbo BASIC, Quick BASIC, Visual Basic, Borland C++ Builder, ASP, PHP, Javascript, PL/SQL, Transact-SQL, Apache administration and XHTML/CSS. He was a professional programmer, analyst, consultant and project manager in international firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting and IBM Business Consulting Services with industrial knowledge in the internet, banking/finance and warehouse/supply chain domains.
